More beachy things

Egret in the waves.

What are your plans to celebrate Labor Day?

  1. Beautiful photos, E.A.! I’m intrigued by the ice plant, and I always love when you post that gorgeous (massive!) tree.

    • I read that the ice plant isn’t well liked and it’s like our invasive species. They try to get rid of it. What I find interesting about that is we used to go to Laguna Beach in the summer. One year they had wildfires that destroyed homes. The homes that were not touched had ice plants surrounding the homes.

      • Wow, this is absolutely fascinating about the ice plants somehow shielding the home from wildfires…

      • We noticed the ice plants ourselves and then read about it. They are succulents and act as a moisture barrier against fire. I wonder if they grow in Scottsdale?

      • I don’t think I’ve even seen them before, so I don’t think they’re native (or invasive), but I wonder how they would do here.

  2. That’s incredible that you caught the egret with a snack in its mouth. Wow, Elizabeth! I’m so glad that your beach vacation is providing such great views!! We’re staying home over Labor Day and soaking up the last of summer!

    • We have a few more days here but the beach is going to be so crowded this weekend. We’ll go for early morning walks. Otherwise we won’t get parking. Enjoy the last days of summer!

  3. That tree really is amazing. A tree of life. I’m sure this isn’t true … but I really hope the house belongs to a huge family and they have big reunions there with lots of relatives and they all get out and hang on the various branches. Okay, now I’m being silly, but you get the idea!! 🤣🤣😎😎

    • It’s such a tasteful home with style and a beautiful tree. I have never seen anyone there. I suppose they are off with their large family in their assorted mansions around the world and want to avoid the summer riff raff.

  4. I agree about the beautiful old symmetrical tree. An amazing survivor on the coast. Hopefully a mostly quiet weekend, though a party at a friend’s tomorrow and lunch with a friend on Sunday. There’s always a big motorcycle rally here on the Labor Day weekend. Quite crowded and noisy.

    • Even without a motorcycle rally the beach is going to be crazy busy. We will go for morning walks before the crowds to get a parking spot. Also, sunset, hoping people have left! The 101 from Carpinteria to Santa Barbara was completely stopped this afternoon at 2 p.m. I think it was people coming in for the weekend. We’re staying halfway in between and only have less than a mile to drive on the 101 thank goodness.
