An egret enjoying a snack in the surf.

Ice plants in bloom.

My favorite house at the beach. Not only do I like architecture, it has the best tree.

I love this palm tree with the mountains in the background.

A beautiful house. I wonder what it would be like to wake up there every morning?
Have a great Labor Day Weekend! I hope it doesn’t get too busy and crowded at the beach!
What are your plans to celebrate Labor Day?

Beautiful photos, E.A.! I’m intrigued by the ice plant, and I always love when you post that gorgeous (massive!) tree.
I read that the ice plant isn’t well liked and it’s like our invasive species. They try to get rid of it. What I find interesting about that is we used to go to Laguna Beach in the summer. One year they had wildfires that destroyed homes. The homes that were not touched had ice plants surrounding the homes.
Wow, this is absolutely fascinating about the ice plants somehow shielding the home from wildfires…
We noticed the ice plants ourselves and then read about it. They are succulents and act as a moisture barrier against fire. I wonder if they grow in Scottsdale?
I don’t think I’ve even seen them before, so I don’t think they’re native (or invasive), but I wonder how they would do here.
Me too. Maybe not well because they’re found along the coast.
How much longer do you have in CA? Love seeing that gorgeous, huge tree still standing!
We have until next weekend. I’ll try to make the most of it! Yes, I love that tree. I’ve never seen a person at the house.
I love watching shore birds stroll the beach. Egrets are such graceful creatures…
They are so beautiful. We were at the beach for an evening walk last night. There were four egrets at the edge of the shore, evenly spaced.
Great pics! My husband is with the guys and my daughter is away!! Free house!!
More writing time for you! I’m not doing so well with that because my husband is taking time off work and most of our time is together.
You’ll need a vacation after the vacation…
Normal life will be that. Then I go take care of my daughter post her shoulder surgery.
Always something
Yes. I get to be a full time mother again. Then when I leave, I am bringing Waffles the pug home with me. My daughter won’t be able to walk him for awhile.
So the mom hood will continue
Yes, or “grandma” hood.
😂
Love the calm pictured in your photos. 💞💞💞
Thank you. It is so relaxing here.
Thanks for sharing
That’s incredible that you caught the egret with a snack in its mouth. Wow, Elizabeth! I’m so glad that your beach vacation is providing such great views!! We’re staying home over Labor Day and soaking up the last of summer!
We have a few more days here but the beach is going to be so crowded this weekend. We’ll go for early morning walks. Otherwise we won’t get parking. Enjoy the last days of summer!
That tree really is amazing. A tree of life. I’m sure this isn’t true … but I really hope the house belongs to a huge family and they have big reunions there with lots of relatives and they all get out and hang on the various branches. Okay, now I’m being silly, but you get the idea!! 🤣🤣😎😎
It’s such a tasteful home with style and a beautiful tree. I have never seen anyone there. I suppose they are off with their large family in their assorted mansions around the world and want to avoid the summer riff raff.
I agree about the beautiful old symmetrical tree. An amazing survivor on the coast. Hopefully a mostly quiet weekend, though a party at a friend’s tomorrow and lunch with a friend on Sunday. There’s always a big motorcycle rally here on the Labor Day weekend. Quite crowded and noisy.
Even without a motorcycle rally the beach is going to be crazy busy. We will go for morning walks before the crowds to get a parking spot. Also, sunset, hoping people have left! The 101 from Carpinteria to Santa Barbara was completely stopped this afternoon at 2 p.m. I think it was people coming in for the weekend. We’re staying halfway in between and only have less than a mile to drive on the 101 thank goodness.
The ice plants are beautiful, as are all your photos, Elizabeth! We’re laying low this weekend to dodge the crowds. 🙂
Thank you! I’m enjoying my last few days at the beach. But it is so crowded here this weekend, too. We walked early and found a parking spot and the beach was mostly empty. We’ll go around sunset tonight and walk if there’s a parking spot.
Hope you have a good last few days, even with the crowds.
Beautiful photos—and oh the glorious sound of waves crashing on the shore in your little video clip! I miss that sound so.
I’m trying to soak up every minute of beach and waves while I’m still here.
Really wish I was doing “beachy things” right now! Lovely photos. Landlocked Missouri isn’t this pretty right now.
Thank you! We are loving every minute of the beach. We’ll be back to the hot desert soon enough.
