What a start to the New Year! New Orleans. Las Vegas. Queens. All on day one.
I’ve heard that our country is most vulnerable during a transition of power. I’m not sure if that’s why all this happened or not, but I’m hoping and praying for quieter and peaceful days ahead.
The last couple days, I’ve taken photos of birds and plants in my backyard. What a good time to share my bird buddies, and to reflect and enjoy nature.

Hawk number one was joined by a friend.

I’ve had visits from a bright red Northern Cardinal daily. I haven’t seen his wife lately. I hope she’s okay.

Mourning Doves roosting on the fence catching the morning sun.

There are always a handful of House Finches flitting around.

It’s not very often a quail flies up into the bird feeder. They prefer the ground.

I also enjoy my two pink flamingos with their little red friend.
Here’s to an uneventful New Year!
What are your wishes for a New Year?

Wow! This post made my day. I have to get one of those birdfeeders with canera! This is certainly better than news first thing in the morning.
Thank you! I’ve had the Birdbuddy for a couple years and where I live in Arizona, the plastic that holds the camera if getting brittle in the sun. I worry that someday I’ll have to replace it if it breaks.
I am ordering one today. I meant to ask for one for Christmas! I know it must be so much fun.
Yay! If you bought the same brand as mine, let me know if you need any help setting it up. FYI, my son was on the team that helped fundraise and bring Bird Buddy to market. Unfortunately, he no longer has the account and it went to Kickstarter I believe. But it was his favorite project to date.
I am impressed. What would you buy today. I’d love to be able to reach out to someone if I got in a pinch.
I love my Bird Buddy with the solar panel. The two developers are from Yugoslavia and it’s their original idea and design. Plus they are always updating the camera and firmware? Software? Whatever it’s called. I get updates on my phone and get new features. Yes, I’m happy to help.
Does it work with iphone?
Yes. That’s what I have.
I have one from the Sharper Image and it works well with my iPhone.
I liked the original because my son worked on bringing it to market. I ordered it on my son’s word while it was in development. The copies were stolen by Chinese. Of course by Bird Buddy manufacturing them in China, that was going to happen. Also, my son not longer has the account.
What do you mean uneventful?? Look at all the beautiful birds you have. You were able to celebrate nature, wonderful. I love all these birds. People pay to go on trips to bird watch. You can watch from your back yard. Amazing! I always love that red cardinal… but the Hawks, magnificent.
Thank you! You are so correct. Uneventful is the wrong word. I find so much peace watching birds and I’m fortunate to enjoy it in my backyard. I was excited to take a photo of one hawk and then have two!
Yes, I love your garden photos, you have so many animals, birds, etc. Beautiful.
😁
Ooh! I envy you the quail. That’s a bird we rarely see here..
Thanks! I enjoy the quail so much. I throw birdseed on the ground and they come into my yard by the dozens. My favorite are the babies in the spring and early summer. They line up in a row and follow their parents everywhere.
How sweet! Hope you post photos of that come spring.
💕
I will try! They are beyond cute! We had a nest of eggs in planters two years in a row. The first year they hatched. The second year, the eggs were abandoned, because the quail picked a planter next to our garage while we were out of town. Once we got home, we driving in and out, the quail mom and dad left.
Oh, your yard is WAYYY more interesting than mine. Wow!
We always say we’re living in the Wild Kingdom. I love having something to practice my photography on without leaving my yard!
You are very lucky!
I wish people would take personal responsibility
Yes!
Since you originally got your Bird Buddy I have seen so many as I walk around town looking at yards. Those things are really popular! I can’t even try to predict what will come over this next year… There are a number of family things happening around me, sort of on the fringes of my personal life, but all still have an impact. I hope by this time next year all of that is settled.
That’s interesting that there are Bird Buddies in your town. Mine has a solar panel on the little roof to keep the camera charged. I wonder if people hard wire them in your town, or have to constantly bring the camera inside to charge? I hope all goes well with all your family things happening around you.
I love all of your backyard birds! You get such a variety!
Thanks! It’s mostly mourning doves, but fortunately there are some interesting ones!
Ah…so good! Those mourning doves. I can almost hear them. 🥰
There was a huge long row of the mourning doves. The photo where I captured all of them made them to small to appreciate. I’m glad you enjoyed the photo! 😁
Adorable! 🥰
😍
I love how you included the flamingos. Great shots, Elizabeth!
Thank you, Wynne! The flamingos are outside the window where I sit and write. I can’t miss them 😉
I see a photo book in your future. You could call it: The life and times at the EA Nature Preserve and Aviary. What do you think EA? Ha, ha, love the photos. I would never get anything done at your house. I would be looking out the window all the time. The only thing I get here are “damn” squirrels who get into our feeder anytime I put out birdseed. Ha, ha.
Great idea on my own preserve photo book 😅 I’m having trouble focusing now. Just wait until my photography class begins and I have actual assignments!
No pressure. Just love your photos! 🤣😎😎😎😎
You’re too kind 😅
Great! I’m set!
👍🏼
You have way more critters visiting your yard than we do. It must be a treat to look outside and see what nature has brought you.
Is most certainly is a treat. It doesn’t hurt that I feed the birds, too.
How cool you caught the quail at the camera feeder! Yes, I’d be happy with an uneventful January.
I love the detail on the quail photo. Here’s to an uneventful January and a Happy and healthy New Year!
Beautiful birds in your backyard Elizabeth. Thanks for sharing
I’m glad you enjoyed them!
👍🏼😍👍🏼
😊
I love all your birds. What kind of hawks are those, and does that one facing the camera only have one leg/claw? You have a lovely variety of birds and I never tire of seeing them, even your stealth flamingos. 🙂
Wishing for us all to have a peaceful year to come!
Thanks! They are Harris Hawks, and they both have two feet. Maybe he’s standing on one leg like a real flamingo!
The Flamingos are trending. 🙂
