My all time favorite cheese.
A few years ago we were visiting our kids in the Berkeley area. The weather was perfect and we went on a quest to see redwoods.
We walked through the woods in the Redwood Regional Park in Oakland with our kids and future daughter-in-law. We sat down on a bench and enjoyed a treat our son prepared for us. Brillat Savarin cheese, blackberries and crusty bread. It’s the first time I had tasted that cheese. If you have not tried it, it’s mild but the creamiest. I found this description online:
It is a triple cream soft-ripened cheese that is luscious, creamy and faintly sour.
We did find a few redwoods and it was such a peaceful place to be outdoors in a forest with the people I love.
After our hike, we went to Rockridge in Oakland to a cafe and window shopped. What a beautiful day with family.
Once at home, I searched for the cheese. I went to five different grocery stores and none had Brillat, including the expensive, fancy schmancy one. Years later, I was picking up vitamins I normally order on Amazon at Whole Foods. (For some reason, Amazon directed me to pick up my vitamins myself.) Wouldn’t you know it? I spotted Brillat Savarin!
What are a few of my favorite things? Spending time outdoors. Spending time with family. My favorite cheese that brings back those memories. Olive. And yes, “The Sound of Music.”
What are a few of your favorite things?

Thanks for sharing this idea Anita
Thank you for reading!
Favorite things: zinnias, pinot noir, apples, comfy chairs, laughing out loud until my sides hurt, Birkenstocks, jeans, & my sweet baboo aka Z-D.
Laughing out loud until your sides hurt is the best!
First, I am surprised that you were able to take a walk in Oakland without armed escorts. Brave. Now to answer your question: my favorite things (outside of my family), include old fashioned Spaghetti O’s, bills that have a -0- balance, a car engine that is making no weird noises, and a freshly cut, well manicured lawn. There, that is a few of my favorite things.
The Redwood park is miles above downtown Oakland. It’s in a nice area. Otherwise, I’d go with the armed guards. I like canned ravioli from Chef Boyardee. Plus, I’d love a lawn, but we have gravel here. As for a car engine….mine keeps sending off random alert warnings. Something is wrong with censors.
So my favorite things can also be your favorite things? I lived In Sierra Vista (Arizona, way South of Tucson), and grass was too hard to maintain without water, so I get it. You can still have a great landscaped yard with all the fauna that is available. Cacti bloom beautifully. So do weeds.
Yes, a lot of your favorite things resonated with me. We had a lawn in Palm Springs and it’s hotter there than the hills above Scottsdale. But our water bill was outrageous. Yes, the prior owner of our AZ house was into his yard, so we have lots of great desert plants.
Mist rising from a tranquil lake early in the morning, dogs who fully understand everything you say and judge you for it, stars, ice cream, flannel
Love it. Those are great favorite things. I remember mist rising from a tranquil lake in Washington.
Hmm, the cheese sounds amazing . And zero calories right? Let’s just say it’s zero to keep my dream going!!! Ha ha!
It really is amazing cheese. I wonder if you have it in your stores? Of course it’s negative calorie cheese. My son is visiting soon and he said he’s bringing me my new favorite cheese. Should be interesting!
The Sound of Music is one of my favorite things, too. I also like quality dark chocolate, blooming flowers in the garden, and hugs.
Wonderful! I love those things, too.
I’m going in search of this cheese! Looks fabulous! Favorite things? Talking with my granddaughters, popcorn, and long walks when I can gather my thoughts. Hugs, C
Please let me know if you find the Brillat Savarin. It’s delicious! My kids buy it at the Berkeley Bowl. Your favorite things sound amazing. But not tandem rides around the world and across Iowa?
This cheese sounds perfect.
It’s so good but not that available. My kids get it at the Berkeley Bowl where they live. It’s the most amazing grocery store I’ve ever been in with low prices and a huge variety of fresh products plus on shelves for all cultures.
How nice. This thing has become a rarity- reasonable prices!

Beautifully done, Elizabeth! Amazing how reminiscent foods, smells and places can be. I love how you brought that all back for us!
What a beautiful compliment. Thank you!
That cheese sounds yummy. Cheese is one of my favorite things. ❤️
You should look for it. It’s so delicious.
I will!
