Santa Barbara Harbor is where our friends keep their sailboat and I get the best fish tacos in the world. At least I haven’t found any that are better.
“Let the clean air blow the cobwebs from your body. Air is medicine.”
Sunday was my first morning waking up in my own bed. After a long drive home, it felt good to get home and see Olive. My cat sitter texted me Tuesday, Thursday and called on Friday. Olive was done with our vacation. She had quit eating and was constipated. I told the cat sitter where Olive’s RX laxative was stored. I was anxious to get home to Olive.
We got home Saturday afternoon and Olive gave me a long plaintive cry. She was obviously uncomfortable and unhappy. We gave her another dose of laxative and by Saturday night, Olive was feeling better. I have to hold Olive while my better half forces the laxative into her mouth and down her throat. I have no idea how the cat sitter managed it alone.
So what about cobwebs, you ask?
Waking up in my own bed with a dramatic sunrise, I noticed lots of cobwebs outside. After I finished my morning routine, I went outside and knocked them down. Then I thought about what else I wanted to do outside before it got hot. I kicked in the pool and enjoyed drying off in the sun and breeze on the zero gravity recliner. I felt so much better being outside and getting fresh air after packing, driving, and unpacking.
I’ve decided to add a few things to my daily routine to get rid of the cobwebs in my body. I can poke around the yard after our morning walk and see what little things I need to attend to like cobwebs and weeds. Then I can jump in the pool. No, it’s not the Pacific Ocean, but I should take advantage of it every day before the cold weather hits.
While it’s still hot, I’m going to take my second walk of the day on the YMCA’s elliptical machine. At the beach, we were walking in the morning and evening. Eventually, I’ll add lap swimming at the Y.

The best fish tacos are at the Santa Barbara Harbor at On the Alley, which is part of Brophy Brothers.
On The Alley (OTA) is a more casual, sister-venue to Brophy Bros., Santa Barbara’s wildly popular seafood restaurant. Serving fresh fish tacos, burgers and salads, On The Alley dishes up quick, quality lunch fare within the beautiful harbor. Included on the menu are a handful of Brophy Bros. classics like New England Clam Chowder and Fish & Chips. Breakfast is also offered, including Smoothies and customizable Breakfast Bowls. Enjoy the generous portions and wallet-friendly prices. Order online for fast and easy pick-up. Savor it outside at our tables or take your food with you wherever you go! https://www.onthealley.com/

This sign is advertising Stand Up and Paddle under moonlight. I saw the joke when I took this photo. I wish I had read the full sign — I might have signed up for moonlight paddling.
What do you do to get rid of cobwebs?

It’s always good to get home from vacation I think. I feel bad for Olive. What a stressful time for her each time she has to be away from you.
Olive is still suffering. I hate to take her to the vet, but I may have no choice. She absolutely freaks out in the car and the vet. I’m trying her daily laxative and trying new soft foods. The cat sitter said to try pumpkin, but she won’t touch it.
I imagine that would feel like just one more “bad thing” in her cat world. Poor girl. How to balance your own human life (like vacations) with a pets needs and preferences (keeping you at home!)
I can empathize.
It’s tough. If we’re gone for a long weekend, she’s fine. She really suffered being boarded, so when I was recommended this cat sitter, I thought Olive’s stress was resolved. It makes me want to take a shorter vacation.
I try to do one fun thing a day, no matter how small. And I write lots of lists…
Yes, I’m big on lists. I make one every morning with all my to dos and cross them off in red ink.
Love the completion of a task
It’s very satisfying. My first full day at home yesterday, I accomplished to complete a long list!
That makes me happy and it wasn’t even my list
That’s great! 😃
Ah….getting the cobwebs out of your body. I like that thought. And I’m so sorry to hear Olive had a bad time of it. She missed you! 🥰
I feel this morning the cobwebs out getting out of my body after a morning walk, stretching, crunches, weights and kicking in the pool. Yes, Olive was unhappy the last few days of our trip. I’m getting concerned with her. If she’s not all better by tomorrow, I may take Olive to the vet. She has gallstones and sometimes they block her bile ducts.
Oh dear. Talk about knocking out the cobwebs…of a sort. Hope Olive gets some relief soon. I think one of your terrific observations about clearing out our own cobwebs is about getting back into a routine, being home. Yay for you! 🥰
It may sound like a lot of activity, but I only do small bits of each. I do like my routines and keep most of it at the beach, too. Especially morning pages, prayer and walking. But I feel more grounded at home.
Love that. I feel the same any time we’re away – even for a short trip. 🥰
💕
I feel sad for Olive. She really misses you when you’re gone. 😔
She is a finicky, sad little thing. I hate to see her suffer. Last year, we were gone for the same amount of time, and she did fine with the cat sitter. I don’t know why this year is different. I wish she could talk to me.
I know. You’re a good pet parent. 😘❤️
Thanks!
I understand getting the cobwebs out of your body, but those fish tacos look pretty good. I might leave for a few days too if they were part of the deal.
The tacos are the best! The fish comes fresh of the boats in the harbor, are huge pieces of fish deep fried, topped with avocado and pickled onions and creme fraiche. Yum!
Okay, I’m in, you’ve sold me. Ha, ha.
👍🏼
Poor Olive! I expect the same fate for my older dog when the boys go to the kennel for our upcoming vacation. But, welcome home! Cobwebs and chores notwithstanding.
Thank you. Olive hasn’t bounced back. She’s fine when we go for short trips. But she lost patience with us this time.
Hopefully she’ll feel better soon.
We will have to go to the vet. She’s doing poorly.
😢
I love where you’ve gone with the cobweb metaphor, Elizabeth. Seems like a good review of how to knock down our cobwebs is in order. A great time of year to do it. I hope Olive is better soon!
Thank you! Yes, September is the perfect time to assess where we can make changes and grow. Olive isn’t eating or drinking so I’m worried. I will be taking her to the vet later today if she doesn’t improve.
It’s always good to be back home after the holidays
Yes it is 😊
❤️❤️❤️
💕
Poor little Olive. The cobweb analogy is a good one, and I think you nailed it with getting some fresh air every morning.
I’m so worried about Olive. Yes, fresh air helps my day. I wrote my morning pages outside this morning after our morning walk. The temperature was perfect and I loved listening to birds.
When we arrived home last week from our 7-week trip, we had a lot of cobwebs and weeds… and we were just starting a week of hot weather. When things cool off, I’ll take care of both. It’s nice to sleep in your own bed, right?
I hope poor Olive feels better soon!
Yes, it felt good to sleep in my own bed. Our bedroom faces east and the sunrises are spectacular. I’m hoping Olive is doing better by tomorrow!
