Looking out our front door. Everything is so green after rainy days.
Today is the day of the total eclipse of the sun. It will be a partial eclipse in the Phoenix area. I found this nifty chart so I know when to look outside. I don’t have the “special” sun glasses, so I won’t look up at the sun. I’m just curious if it’s going to get dark outside. We had house guests in October during the last eclipse and we all noticed it got dark for a few minutes. Very eery feeling.

I have neighbors who traveled to Katy, Texas for the eclipse. The husband is an astronomer, has worked for NASA and gives lectures around the country on things astronomical. Unfortunately, it’s going to be cloudy in Katy with a chance of rain. I hope they get to see the eclipse.
I keep hearing words run through my head from Pink Floyd song “Eclipse.” Did you know that the Dark Side of the Moon came out 51 years ago? Yikes.
Did you know that there are playlists for today? You can google it and playlists are posted everywhere from NPR to USA Today. Some of the popular songs include Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” Bill Withers “Aint’s No Sunshine,” Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon,” and Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata.” Elton John’s “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” and the Beatles “Here Comes the Sun” also made the lists.
Apparently, music helps set the mood and eclipse experience. But there’s so many songs and the eclipse doesn’t last long, so you need to make a choice on your soundtrack.
What song would you select for the eclipse?
Are you in an area to see it?

“Total Eclipse of the Heart” is on repeat in my brain today. We may see the eclipse IF the clouds don’t show up here… as forecasted.
I had to play that song because I didn’t remember it that well. It all came back. Hope you have weather that cooperates.
Personally, I don’t really get the hype. Nature does nature-y things. Though, I do remember watching an eclipse (partial eclipses?) at school in the 90s which I wasn’t too impressed with. I guess I’m not astronomically inclined… 😂
I remember being at school with some sort of paper to see the eclipse shadow. But I’m like you, it seemed like nothing.
Same lol
👍🏼
I like many of the songs you listed but I’m not much for hyping the eclipse. I’ll take note of it today but no special travel.
I never knew this would be such a hyped event. I was surprised my neighbors were traveling for it, but it has been in line with his career.
Yes, feel like you just can’t get away from it. I’ll probably end up missing it. Ha ha
The eclipse and the earthquake in New Jersey seem like the only things happening.
We had some rumblings of the earthquake here … nothing extraordinary but still an odd experience for the east coast.
Living in California for so many years, it seemed like the East Coast was making a huge deal out of an earthquake we would have ignored.
Well said. Maybe I’m missing something but it was all pretty minor.
I’ve been through several that were scary, over 6.0. But if you’re not used to earthquakes, they can be unnerving.
I heard of a town in Indiana that’s in the path of totality. They are having an event at their downtown park called the Total Eclipse of the Park. 🙂
Hope you get a little eclipse action, Elizabeth!
That’s a cute name for an eclipse event. 😊
Total Eclipse of the Heart has been running through my mind. 🙂 We should get a partial view but its cloudy so don’t know how good it will be. My son and his girlfriend drove 4 hours to Erie to see where it is supposed to be totality. My husband’s family live in Indiana so they are anxious to see it. We had thought of going out there, but a long drive for just that.
Total Eclipse of the Heart is having a major comeback today. I think a long drive for four minutes wouldn’t be worth it 😊
My feelings, but they are young and adventurous so I said have fun making memories. 🙂
That’s sweet of you. Yes, there’s something to be said for being young!
Yes, they have more energy. LOL! And don’t need to make pit stops for the restroom on a 4 hour car ride. LOL!
😂
I think that I fall in line with those who are sort of meh about all of it. We never get to see much up here anyway and it’s April in WA so that means clouds and rain. I think some people attach a great deal of historical mysticism to eclipses when they are, just as Erin said, “natural” and proof that our solar system is behaving as it should. I know scientists love the full eclipse so that they can study the corona of the sun and amass tons of research data…to me honestly EA…it’s just another Monday.
I feel sorry for my neighbors traveling to Texas to be in the clouds and rain. We’re having a cloudy day here, too. Like you said, it’s nature.
What % are you going to enjoy? And for the loser question, during an eclipse, is the Dark Side of the Moon no longer dark? “Eclipse” is a great song, one of my favs.
“And all that’s to come
And everything under the sun is in tune (Everything)
But the sun is eclipsed by the moon”
Good question. Is the dark side of the moon still dark? 🧐
All of this is making me smile. Up north, here, we have friends in the Cleveland area and some down toward Carbondale, IL who are ‘all in’ but worried about stormy weather…eclipsing the eclipse. Thanks for the playlist. We’ll totter out to the deck around 2:07 here because the forecast if for clear skies in Chicago-land, so we might get a glimpse. Now we have tunes to go with it! 😎
The playlists made me smile, too. I talked to my daughter about it and she said, “Every event is better with music.”
Smart girl…smart girl. Like her momma! 🥰
☺️
It’s not visible from our side of the world.
Thanks for letting me know. I wondered about that.
My pleasure

❤️❤️❤️
I live right near Katy. Definitely a cloudy day . I guess I won’t need the glasses. 🤓
I feel sorry for my neighbors who traveled there for the big event!
There’s lots of other things to do. Tell them to go visit Buccees . And Galveston beach is not far.
👍🏼
I’m about 20 miles southeast of Katy. We had rain earlier. It’s CLOUDY.
Darn. I feel badly for my friends in Katy.
The good news is, even if we can’t see it outside, it’s fun to see it on the news. Also, so many NASA folks commenting, it’s great.
Yes, I have the TV on in the background. It’s fun to see the photos and videos.
3 pm today-at work. Some watched with glasses and some, without. Eclipse song-Now you see it, now you don’t.
Not much happened here. I was disappointed. The partial eclipse in October was more dramatic. Good song!
Moonshadow by cat stevens
Good one! That was my high school best friend’s favorite song.
💕

We didn’t see it, but I love all the songs you listed. I remember my parents listening to Frank Sinatra, so “Fly me to the moon” brings memories of those good old times.
That’s a great song! When I was a newlywed there was a movie out that had Fly Me to the Moon as a theme song. My husband and I would dance to it. The movie was Once Around with Richard Dreyfuss and Holly Hunter.
I’m not one of those who goes gaga over eclipses. My brother had a great experience viewing it from his front yard in Cleveland (totality). It was somewhat overcast here. My husband observed it, but I was driving home at the time, oblivious.
I’m with you. I was kind of excited when our house guests laying out on chaise lounges by the pool last October got my attention to the eclipse. I was unaware of it, but everything went gray or in shadow. Nothing happened yesterday.
That’s a great playlist. Bonnie Tyler’s song kept running through my head at the time. We had about 94% obscurity in middle Missouri. It didn’t get really dark but there was a noticeable drop in temperature. Some people commented they had headaches and didn’t feel well afterwards but I never felt any different. I’ll be 87 the next time this happens in Missouri. Wonder if I’ll make it!!
That is fascinating. I wonder why people got headaches and didn’t feel well. I’ve never heard that before.
