A skinny bobcat on our patio.
Yesterday on our walk, we saw a huge coyote walking down the wash. He stopped and we stared at each other for a minute. Then he sauntered away. He was too far away for a close photo, thank goodness!
I also captured a bobcat on my outside camera. This guy paid us a visit at 4:30 a.m. and stopped by last week around 10 p.m. one night. (Video below).
I found my favorite photos of wildlife to share:
Javelina on the sidewalk enjoying prickly pears.
Mule deer in the side yard.
Coyote on the wall behind our house on a snowy day.
Outside our bedroom sliding glass door. This bobcat climbed a tree, ate some birds and then napped in this spot.
Below is the Bobcat Video:
The bobcat walks by at about 6 seconds. After he disappears behind the tree, you can stop watching. Sorry, I don’t know how to edit the video from our Cox Camera.
I’m on the App Next Door, and a lot of people are posting wildlife photos. It must be another sign that Spring is in the air. What I don’t like is the rattlesnake photos. One I saw this morning was a rattler on a workbench inside a garage. Yikes!
I love all the wildlife we have around us. I enjoy watching the animals way more than worrying about the homeless guy who moved into our yard and said he bought our house in Palm Springs.
What wildlife do you enjoy where you live?
I would love to see a javelina in person. They are such unusual animals. I think the coyote on the wall is my favorite. Looks like he spotted something good to eat.
I hope we get more about the yard camper person! Is this a story I missed or is this new?
I’m glad you enjoyed my photos. The last two years we lived in Palm Springs we had a person breaking through our gate, staring through our bedroom windows. Every time we left town he’d move into our yard with backpacks, blankets and even a bbq. I’m sure I wrote about it, but it would be years ago.
That’s one skinny bobcat. He’s handsome. Our interesting wildlife involves deer, rabbits, squirrels, and ground hogs. Occasionally I get a pic of one of them, but they’re elusive despite being all around us.
I understand that. I can’t get bunny photos either or chipmunks. They’re too fast.
You have so much wildlife there! I’m assuming that the people who own dogs do not let them roam in their yards like we do in the Midwest?
You’re correct. We have to keep our cat indoors at all times. She was indoor/outdoor in California. Dogs have to be watched at all times. I’m going to babysit my daughter’s pug and I’ll have him on a leash when he goes outside.
Oh my gosh…such photos! And you know what — when I first glanced at the pic of the lounging bobcat, I thought I was looking at Olive! Better clean my glasses. 😜
Ha! That’s funny. The bobcat does look like a domesticated kitty.
🥰
😊
The bobcat looks like it just wants you to open the door and let it in to be petted. Okay, maybe not. Yes, the bobcat, rattle snakes, and coyotes would worry me the most — especially the bobcat coming so close. I’m assuming that your neighbors have to be careful about letting out their dogs out in their yards or does that scare the bobcats/coyotes away? Pretty cool to be running your own Nature Preserve! You should charge a fee to visitors. Ha, ha. Beautiful shots.
Thank you! Everyone is very careful with their pets. I was told by our realtor to never let my cat outside, that she’d last less than an hour. I think people with big dogs don’t have to worry as much. Although javelina see dogs as their natural enemy and will attack. Some of them have huge tusks!
Wow, didn’t know that about javelina. Interesting and scary. Stay inside Olive!
Olive has gotten outside twice. I was so terrified. First time, I opened all the doors and she ran inside. Second time, I found her hiding under a bush.
Yea, wouldn’t want her out there long. I have some mean looking squirrels coming up to my deck but no bobcats! Ha ha
😅
I love all the wildlife! We’re been seeing the same, though no mule deer near us (I’m jealous), and lots of roadrunner this year. Did you know that there’s only one report of human death by coyote in the last 150 years, and it was by a pack of starving coyotes during a particularly harsh Canadian winter. Javelina, on the other hand, are very aggressive toward humans, so be careful! They’re cute but often charge and bite. I’ve had a few run-ins in my life. 😂 If you have a shotgun, that’s how most people I know deal with rattlesnakes because they’re so difficult/expensive to relocate safely. Hopefully, they don’t wander onto your properly. 🤞 Thanks for sharing all the great pictures, EA!
I have heard that javelina are dangerous. When I stopped to take that photo, they turned and started walking towards me! So far I’ve only seen a few rattlesnakes outside our neighborhood on the road. I hope it stays that way.
Woah! That’s a lot of wildlife in your area! We have lots and lots of deer all year round. A few years ago, one gave birth in our yard! We also have fox, owls, wild turkeys and the garden variety squirrels and bunnies. Sometimes we have raccoons and can hear coyotes in the distance some nights. Yes, spring is here. BTW, the mating call of a female fox…called a siren cry….sounds like a woman being murdered….just FYI. Very disturbing.
You have a lot of wildlife, too! I have heard the same thing as the mating call of your fox at night. I was told it was a female mountain lion. We do have fox here, too though. I haven’t seen one but my neighbor has.
Wow. I think I’d be afraid to go outside!
I don’t go outside after dark, but I’m fine in the daytime. Once I took out the trash and came face to face with a bobcat sitting on the bin. We both ran away!
You make me want cameras outside! Gorgeous creatures, all. Isn’t God so creative?
I can’t wait to check out my outdoor camera every morning to see what creatures visited us. Yes, so creative!
Quite the menagerie! The javelina just out for a snack and a stroll.
The javelina we have to be wary of. They can attack!
That poor, skinny bobcat… I think I’d be tempted to leave some food out (far away from the house 🙂
I don’t think I ever saw a javelina in real life, but that’s probably for the best.
I know. I wanted to feed that bobcat too. But I feed the quail and the bobcats eat them.
Wow, you have some fun visitors in your neighborhood! You obviously have to be careful during your early morning walks. Take care my friend. Hugs, C
Right now the weather is great and we walk after the market closes. I have to be careful when it’s hotter and we do the super early walks! I do love the wildlife. It’s one of my favorite things about Arizona.
That poor bobcat really looks too skinny! I love seeing the foxes and wild turkeys. I can do without rodents and deer. Though I don’t really appreciate their presence, it’s cool to have a bear once in a while.
I think it was a female because they are much smaller than the males. She looks so malnourished! I haven’t seen any foxes here, but my neighbor has. We’d have bear in Washington state growing up. They are too scary in my opinion.
You do have a lot of wildlife visiting your property. Excellent share Elizabeth.
Thank you! 😊
You’re welcome my friend
😊
Beautiful pics.
Thanks!
Wow, this guy is so skinny. Wish I could bring him/her some Meow Mix. Beautiful photos.
I know. I wanted to feed him too.
Wow – that is such great wildlife, Elizabeth. What a show you have – thanks for sharing with us. I’m with you about the rattlesnakes. When my parents wintered in Tucson, one of their neighbors found a rattlesnake in their round hose stand. Yikes!
We have raccoons and bunnies and the occasional coyote – but nothing like you!! Thanks for these wonderful pictures!
I’m glad you enjoyed my photos 😊
Right after I read this I went to the beach on Whidbey Island where we are staying this weekend. And saw an otter! Thought of your wildlife post when I did.
How wonderful!
Great photos, and what a group of neighbors you have, Elizabeth! 🙂 That bobcat looks a bit too skinny though.
Thanks! Yes, the bobcat was skinny. Either it put on weight, or I’m seeing a different one walking by.
