It’s wild out there

I found my favorite photos of wildlife to share:

Below is the Bobcat Video:

What wildlife do you enjoy where you live?

  1. I would love to see a javelina in person. They are such unusual animals. I think the coyote on the wall is my favorite. Looks like he spotted something good to eat.

I hope we get more about the yard camper person! Is this a story I missed or is this new?

    • I’m glad you enjoyed my photos. The last two years we lived in Palm Springs we had a person breaking through our gate, staring through our bedroom windows. Every time we left town he’d move into our yard with backpacks, blankets and even a bbq. I’m sure I wrote about it, but it would be years ago.

  2. That’s one skinny bobcat. He’s handsome. Our interesting wildlife involves deer, rabbits, squirrels, and ground hogs. Occasionally I get a pic of one of them, but they’re elusive despite being all around us.

    • You’re correct. We have to keep our cat indoors at all times. She was indoor/outdoor in California. Dogs have to be watched at all times. I’m going to babysit my daughter’s pug and I’ll have him on a leash when he goes outside.

  3. Oh my gosh…such photos! And you know what — when I first glanced at the pic of the lounging bobcat, I thought I was looking at Olive! Better clean my glasses. 😜

  4. The bobcat looks like it just wants you to open the door and let it in to be petted. Okay, maybe not. Yes, the bobcat, rattle snakes, and coyotes would worry me the most — especially the bobcat coming so close. I’m assuming that your neighbors have to be careful about letting out their dogs out in their yards or does that scare the bobcats/coyotes away? Pretty cool to be running your own Nature Preserve! You should charge a fee to visitors. Ha, ha. Beautiful shots.

  5. I love all the wildlife! We’re been seeing the same, though no mule deer near us (I’m jealous), and lots of roadrunner this year. Did you know that there’s only one report of human death by coyote in the last 150 years, and it was by a pack of starving coyotes during a particularly harsh Canadian winter. Javelina, on the other hand, are very aggressive toward humans, so be careful! They’re cute but often charge and bite. I’ve had a few run-ins in my life. 😂 If you have a shotgun, that’s how most people I know deal with rattlesnakes because they’re so difficult/expensive to relocate safely. Hopefully, they don’t wander onto your properly. 🤞 Thanks for sharing all the great pictures, EA!

    • I have heard that javelina are dangerous. When I stopped to take that photo, they turned and started walking towards me! So far I’ve only seen a few rattlesnakes outside our neighborhood on the road. I hope it stays that way.

  6. Woah! That’s a lot of wildlife in your area! We have lots and lots of deer all year round. A few years ago, one gave birth in our yard! We also have fox, owls, wild turkeys and the garden variety squirrels and bunnies. Sometimes we have raccoons and can hear coyotes in the distance some nights. Yes, spring is here. BTW, the mating call of a female fox…called a siren cry….sounds like a woman being murdered….just FYI. Very disturbing.

    • You have a lot of wildlife, too! I have heard the same thing as the mating call of your fox at night. I was told it was a female mountain lion. We do have fox here, too though. I haven’t seen one but my neighbor has.

    • I don’t go outside after dark, but I’m fine in the daytime. Once I took out the trash and came face to face with a bobcat sitting on the bin. We both ran away!

    • Right now the weather is great and we walk after the market closes. I have to be careful when it’s hotter and we do the super early walks! I do love the wildlife. It’s one of my favorite things about Arizona.

  7. That poor bobcat really looks too skinny! I love seeing the foxes and wild turkeys. I can do without rodents and deer. Though I don’t really appreciate their presence, it’s cool to have a bear once in a while.

    • I think it was a female because they are much smaller than the males. She looks so malnourished! I haven’t seen any foxes here, but my neighbor has. We’d have bear in Washington state growing up. They are too scary in my opinion.

  8. Wow – that is such great wildlife, Elizabeth. What a show you have – thanks for sharing with us. I’m with you about the rattlesnakes. When my parents wintered in Tucson, one of their neighbors found a rattlesnake in their round hose stand. Yikes!

We have raccoons and bunnies and the occasional coyote – but nothing like you!! Thanks for these wonderful pictures!
