One of our highlights of visiting the beach in the summer is the Farmer’s Market. I discovered this year there are two –Thursdays in Caprinteria and Saturdays in Santa Barbara. That makes buying fruit and veggies more manageable. I don’t have to stock up only to have fruit get over ripe. I can buy just enough.
There is one stand with all sorts of peppers and tomatoes that we stop at. Farmer Fred is the owner. He’s friends with several of our Santa Barbara friends who gather at his stand to chat each weekend. It’s fun to join in and feel like a local.
By our house in Arizona, we have a tiny Farmer’s market. I call it a Farmer market because there is one veggie stand. There is local honey, jewelry, baked goods, chips and dip and trinkets.
It’s a joy to have an abundance of fresh fruit and veggies. We’re especially enjoying Flavor King plums, sweet corn and shishito peppers.

Do you have a farmer’s market near you? What are your favorite things about Farmer’s Markets? What do you like to buy?
Beautiful, fresh produce.
It’s so nice. Arizona does not have the fresh produce that California has.
That’s understandable.
I love the farmers market. I just buy whatever looks good. The one near me is open four days a week, but Wednesday and Saturday are the days with the most venders
That’s great to have four days! I tend to buy too much when it’s once a week. Then it’s hard to use it all.
I shop at least four times a week…
👍🏼
That’s perfect!
I love farmers’ markets and am lucky enough to be near one!
Everything tastes better from the farmer’s market.
We used to enjoy these, but many have now become just a way for people to push their overpriced craftsmanship. Actual farmer stuff tables are in the minority
That’s what ours is like in Arizona. In Carp and Santa Barbara it’s all farmers from San Luis Obispo and neighboring farmlands.
I miss the California produce, fresh and wonderful. In the Midwest, fruits/vegetables are not so fresh and must be eaten within 2 days or they spoil (strawberries, raspberries, cucumbers, lettuce, zucchini, etc.)
I miss California produce too. I’m happy for the couple weeks a year I get to enjoy it! Arizona is much like the Midwest.
Many of the communities around here have markets, some relatively small and others that have become literal shopping malls. I don’t find the later very fun.
I agree with you on the huge ones. Old Town Scottsdale has a very large one that I find stressful. Too many people, too many stands.
Every Sunday the Farmer’s Market in downtown Campbell opens up and it’s luscious! I love the fresh produce, flowers, and food stands! Yum! Hugs, C
I’m loving being back in CA for the fresh produce and fish. I didn’t realize how mediocre food is in AZ.
You are fortunate to have so many choices!
I treasure the August tomatoes. I can grow my basil on my deck, but the garlic and half bushel I need to make and jar sauce for the winter comes from the farmers market. Such a wonderful community happening our farmers market!
I had the best tomatoes from the farmer’s market Saturday. I can’t wait to go back for more! Making sauce for the winter is a great idea.
That produce! So beautiful.
It is gorgeous!
