It’s that time of the month to post my son and DIL’s reading syllabus for the next month! My DIL teaches English at a private school for students who may struggle with school for various reasons, but are very intelligent. I’m posting the current reading assignments in case you’d like to follow along — or are looking for something good to read.
I will admit, I didn’t keep up with October’s reading list. I wondered how the month went by so quickly! I did read — plus listen to “Revolutionary Road” by Richard Yates. I read Arthur Miller’s “Death of a Salesman” on the flight to and from Oakland. I’m currently reading “The Stranger” by Camus.
I’m behind, but the syllabus is expanding my reading to include poetry, novellas, plays and fiction that I normally wouldn’t read. I see that as a good thing, even though I’m not sticking to the schedule.
My son had his pre-op appointment for his surgery and wouldn’t you know it? It’s the day after my bunion surgery. I postponed my surgery until next year. I’m going up to take care of my son in November for his surgery, just like I did in October for my daughter. We are enjoying taking care of our grand-dog Waffles in between surgeries. We are on a pretty good schedule and I look forward to our walks together almost as much as Waffles does!

What a smile our snaggle-tooth Waffles has!
Have a great weekend! Happy Halloween!
What exciting plans do you have for the weekend?

Syllabus is tough!! Wow!! As to weekend…I’m going to see a historic house tomorrow. On Sunday maybe see Bruce biopic. Lots of things in the air
It is a tough syllabus which is why I’m falling behind. But it does open up my world to reading more selections I never would have. I love the idea of a historic house. The only one I know of here is Frank Lloyd Wright’s.
This is a smaller one. It’s the city’s oldest dutch fieldstone house and on register of historic places. I’ll give more info next week!!
That sounds so unique. I’ll look for your post about it.
Syllabus is tough to read but seems very doable with the amount of reading expected. Halloween, do you get trick or treaters?
It is always best to be “as clear as mud” with syllabus, that way less talking about the teacher and confusion. LOL.
That’s what my son and DIL said about the syllabus, that it was doable with the amount of reading required. We haven’t gotten any trick or treaters in the four years we’ve been here. We rarely got them in Palm Springs, too.
Oh, wow, we will get a few. Yeah, just make it very simple to understand and they should be good. The syllabus, that is.
The syllabus was handed out in September, so it’s done.
Great job getting a delightful smile out of Waffles! No weekend plans as of yet, but maybe a solo hike somewhere…
Waffles will give us a big grin from time to time. Especially during his walks. It’s so adorable. Have fun on a hike!
Kudos to you for even half keeping up with the reading, given how busy the month has been for you! Wishing a smooth surgery and quick recovery for your son. And Waffles is such a cutie!
Thanks for all the good thoughts! We went to a neighbor’s home yesterday and I showed my friend photos of Waffles. She said, “You know he’s really ugly dog.” I was surprised but said, “Waffles is so ugly he’s cute.”
Oh it’s such a busy time for you. I hope the surgery goes smoothly for your son. Take care. Reading is such a great way to spend time fruitfully.
Thank you! I’m going off syllabus right now and reading Amy Tan’s “Backyard Bird Chronicles.” She does birdwatching and draws the birds in her backyard. Right up my alley!
I think it’s part of your photography syllabus 💖
Yes! 😊
👍🏼🙏🏼👍🏼
Wow – such an incredible syllabus. Those kids are getting an amazing English course.
And Waffles – so cute!! Funny how you predicted the surgery schedules would overlap. You’re a good mom, Elizabeth!
I knew when my son had his pre-op appointment and that surgery would most likely be a few weeks later. I’m excited because I’m staying at my favorite hotel in the area — it’s historic, has a great spa, swimming pool and restaurants. After I made my reservation, my husband said he wants to come, too! The prices fluctuate due to what’s going on in the area. When I went for my daughter’s surgery, there was a convention and all hotel prices were through the roof! So I stayed at a little VRBO room.
Waffles gave me a good chuckle with his happy little smile!
Well, timing is everything, and sometimes it just doesn’t work in our favor. You’re a great mom postponing your bunion surgery.
Two more weeks of Waffles and we’ll be flying with him to my daughter’s and taking care of my son. The time is flying by!
