This does not look like my desert view from home because it’s not. It’s the view from a living room window of the cottage we’ve rented for vacation each summer since 2018. It’s a nice break from the heat to be in the cool weather by the beach. Plus a change of scenery isn’t so bad, either.
Here are some more views:
The living room is upstairs and has a view of the ocean. The kitchen and bathroom are upstairs, too. Downstairs is the master bedroom.

The kitchen may be tiny, but it’s full of charm.

The stairs are proving to be a challenge for my ankle. All the ups and downs to unload the car were something else! This photo doesn’t capture the steepness.
Then we went for a beach walk with friends. I made it with a little push and pull, plus encouragement, to get over the rocks and boulders to the sandy beach. Hopefully, I’ll manage it without help in a day or two. It’s a short trail, only a few yards, but with obstacles that were in my way!

One of my favorite things about the beaches in this area is they are not crowded. You almost feel like you have the entire beach to yourself.

My friend pointed out that Ashton Kutcher and his wife are remodeling their $17 million beach house. It had a small cottage in front, that they scrapped completely and they’re making the main house bigger.

Here’s a photo I took of their property last year. I read that the small cottage in front got damaged by a mudslide. So now they’re going to have a different view as well.
What do you like best about a different view than your normal everyday one?

I wonder if the cottage was axed because Kutcher doesn’t want anyone inviting themselves over as guests.
It could be. Or, as it said in a news article I read it got flooded with mud. Of course, they could have cleaned it up and redone it.
What a beautiful getaway! I love a change of scenery, as well.
Also, I hope you ankle hangs in there. You might ask your doctor about Thymosin Beta-4, a peptide, is known for its ability to promote healing and reduce inflammation. Dr. Zeus hurt his knee playing basketball and couldn’t walk and, after a few injections, it eliminated the pain for 4 years (then did the same thing again). We’ve recommended to 10+ other friends/family who also had success.
Thanks for the health info. I’ve never heard of that before. I have a check up with the surgeon when we get home and I’ll ask about it.
Wow – what a beautiful view, Elizabeth! Love your change of scenery although those stairs do look challenging. I’m glad you’ve gotten there and gotten settled. I hope you have a wonderful time with no mishaps!
Thanks, Wynne. I have to take it a bit easier than most years here. Especially with those stairs and the beach walks. But I think in the long run it will increase my strength.
No matter how wonderful your view everyone needs a change of scenery now and then. Your beach cottage sounds perfect!
It’s perfect for the two of us. We have had the kids and DIL stay with us, too and it works. I’m not sure about the steep stairs this year, but it may make me stronger.
Even though we live close to the coast, we don’t go to the beach very often – especially in the summer – due to parking and crowd issues. That almost deserted beach looks like the perfect getaway. Your vacation cottage is so cute!
Thanks! It is very cute and works just fine for a few weeks. I’m always surprised how the beach we go to isn’t crowded. There are other Santa Barbara beaches that are very crowded. I guess this one is off the beaten path.
Looks great Elizabeth. The stairs do look steep in the photo and I wouldn’t want to have to negotiate those every day
The stairs are way more narrow and steeper in real life than the photo shows. I felt so tired the first day here. Today I was better on the stairs and took two beach walks!
Soon you’ll be running up the stair and along the beach
I wish!
Oh I love an empty beach! Looks amazing! Ashton’s building on so that he can invite you to stay next summer. Remember us little people!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🎉
School started in CA, so the beach is empty. It’s why we schedule our vacation later in the summer. Also, for some reason this beach of the “Rich and Famous” doesn’t attract crowds. Ashton tore down his cottage in front of the main house so we don’t become squatters!
That’s so nice that you have a great view, cool weather and no crowds on the beach.
Different views give me things to focus on and wonder about, keeping me mentally sharp and intrigued.
I love the uncrowded beaches here. Also school is in session, so it’s thinned out. The cool weather feels good. Plus my ankle is getting a much bigger work out than at homes
As my normal view is of an NYU housing building, anything is better
I have to agree with you on that!
A lovely view Elizabeth. Hope you have a wonderful time. Stay safe dear friend.
Thank you so much. I’m finally relaxing and I can tell my ankle is getting stronger with the stairs and beach walks.
You’re most welcome. Enjoy ☺️
😍
Your cottage looks charming and the beach looks tranquil. Enjoy your time! 💞
Thanks! I’m enjoying every day!
When you said the bedroom is downstairs, my first thought was: YOUR ANKLE! Yikes. Please be safe.
The beach does look lovely and It’s funny to me that you go to the ocean for ‘cooler air’ but I suppose that is the case in California, but not in Florida in the summer.
Enjoy and take small, calculated steps.
We lived in Palm Springs, CA for 30 years and the temperatures were over 100 degrees to 125! Four years ago we moved to North Scottsdale and it’s a little bit cooler there, but still the desert with hot summers. So it’s so nice to have fog in the mornings and an ocean breeze! The temperatures are usually around 75 degrees which is so much better than over 100 degrees. The stairs are a challenge, but I take it very slow!
Definitely better temps!!
