I came back from my morning walk yesterday and spotted the tiles on our roof. This is turning out to be a bigger project than I had previously imagined.
When we had solar installed, they broke roof tiles and put holes in our roof. First big rain (it poured for several days) we had water damage on the inside.
I called the solar company and sent a letter with photos of the damage to Costco (we bought the solar through them.) A Costco manager called me back as soon as he got the letter. Unfortunately, the solar company no longer works through Costco and they moved out of Arizona. But still the manager gave me a number to call and file a complaint and he said he would, too.
Nothing has happened on that end, but we needed to move forward with fixing our roof and the interior of the house. We got a roofer over and our handyman said he’d do the inside repairs once the roof is fixed.
The roofer said we needed to hire a solar company to remove the panels and supports. And then replace them when he was done with the roof repair. That was the hard part. It took more than three weeks to find a solar company who would do the job. They are too busy selling and installing complete home solar systems and not interested in a small maintenance job. We called people we found online as well as referrals from friends and neighbors. The referrals never returned our calls! Isn’t that something?
I’m glad we found a roofer, a solar company and have our handyman — who is the best.

This is our roof a few hours after the first photo was taken! Yes, I’m thankful. Solar gets reinstalled Monday. Then the handyman comes to repair the damage inside.

A bright flower on a small Beavertail Cactus. All photos were taken with my new phone.
Happy Mother’s Day to all my mom friends.
What are your plans to celebrate or enjoy the weekend?

Oh man, that’s too bad. Looks like you got a lousy deal from that solar company.
We only used them because of Costco. We thought we’d be protected.
It’s a common problem with solar panels installation
I didn’t know that. Also, our climate is so dry I wasn’t thinking about water damage.
I think it’s a new-ish idea so the people installing them aren’t very well versed in the procedure
I’m sorry this happened to you. What a mess, I say stating the obvious but doing so with love.
Weekend plans? A trip to the garden nursery, a few annuals to plant, and then the sky’s the limit. Happy Mother’s Day to you!
It is a mess and one of the hardest things is finding people to do work. Thanks for the Mother’s Day wishes and the concern about my roof! Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy your gardening.
That’s awful. So sorry …
We’ve often been tempted by solar but have never taken the plunge.
Right now, I wouldn’t advise solar. Not only my experience, but our bill was never as low as promised. So we spent a ton of money for not a huge savings.
That’s what I was afraid of. Dying before I could profit from the investment…
😉
👍🏼
Ugh. It’s always the little things that become the biiiiggggggh things. Hope it all goes smoothly.🤣🤣😎😎
Wow – that’s a bigger job than you’d think. Glad you’ve got it coordinated and it’s moving along!
I’m so grateful to have the roof fixed. We had two days of rain earlier this week before the work was started!
Well, that’s a relief. Love the pink flower.
So wrong on so many levels but the flower is lovely
Thank you! I’m hoping we can get some restitution from the solar company or Costco. But in the meantime, the roof is getting fixed. The flower will probably last one more day.
Good luck getting anything from them. It sounds like a battle but stand your ground
I don’t think we will get anything. But I won’t give up.
Going to my mom’s for brunch on Sunday. Saturday my daughter has stuff planned!! We will see
Have fun! That’s nice to have a surprise with your daughter.
💕
What an ordeal, but I’m glad things are moving along. And your flower is gorgeous. Happy Mother’s Day to you! 💕
Yes, we’re almost through it all — except out of pocket for all the expense. Happy Mother’s Day to you, too!
Sucks that the original installer couldn’t be found to fix their mistakes. Grrr.
They were impossible. When they did our installation, they put 220 v in our kitchen and blew up our dishwasher. I called for months, sent emails, etc. to get reimbursed for the electrician I hired to rewire it. I was asking for $190 not the $1200 for the dishwasher (because it was older). It took seven months to get reimbursed. I only got a reply went I sent an email to the entire Arizona Solar Organization of solar companies and told them what happened.
Wow. What an ordeal! I suppose it’s a lucky thing you don’t get too much rain? But really, what a hassle!
I wish there was some recourse for the damage and expense. But we had to move forward and get it all fixed!
