While we had visitors from Washington, we had this kitten stop by for a few hours. The bottle in front of the kitten is bug spray for the “no see ums.”
Our Washington visitors were brand new friends in 2021. We were introduced to them by the friend who brought us out to Arizona. He introduced us to the other couple before he died of Valley Fever Thanksgiving 2021. He also introduced me to my husband 40 years ago in Seattle.
The couple who stayed with us the past few days, still live in the Seattle area but bought a home here that they will retire to. It’s now a rental home for them.
While my mom was alive and in assisted living, I’d get together with this new friend, who lived a few miles from where my mom was. I feel like our friendship with this couple deepened throughout the few days they stayed with us this week. We shared our childhoods, stories about our kids, parents and found more connections.
While they were here, we had visitors of a wilder kind:

I wonder where the momma cat is? This is the youngest kitten I’ve seen alone. Does he have siblings?
Eventually, the kitten curled into a ball and fell asleep
First time I’ve had a cardinal visit in a couple months.
What is this Gilded Flicker doing? It looks like he’s trying to remove a screw with his beak.
What visitors have you had lately?

You are definitely not alone there! What interesting visitors. Our visitors are more squirrel-y than cat-y or flight-y.
We do have some speedy chipmunks, but no squirrels. I saw the bobcat kitten again last night walking along the house. It’s as small as my cat Olive and so skinny!
I love that “kitty” has found a nice perch in the shade. He seems quite at home.
💕
It looks so much bigger in the photos than in real life. It walked along the house past sliding glass doors and it looks so skinny. I’m worried that it’s alone.
Aww, poor little guy.
Love these! You have the most charming wildlife, Elizabeth. That “kitten” is adorable…but I’d wonder about the mama, too. And I thought the same thing — for a second I thought it was a pic of Olive! 🥰
It’s no bigger than Olive and very skinny. I’m tempted to feed it! It’s too little to be alone.
I hear you! You want to love it up! ❤️
Yes! I feel so sorry for it. I’m worried it won’t survive.
😔😔😔 I hear you.
😢
Nothing/ no one as exciting as yours Elizabeth. These are some rare visitors.
They are so beautiful! I enjoy their company.
😍😍😍
🥰
I wish we had visitors like you! 🙂
That’s great that you enjoyed getting to know your friends even more when they visited. Always special to deepen our connections.
I’ve had lunch and coffee with the wife, but I don’t think our husbands had much time to get to know each other until this weekend.
I will have one of my daughters and SIL next week, then we all fly back to Colorado together the following week and I get to be the visitor so I can see the grands and family. It didn’t start out planned this way but just worked out perfectly.
That sounds like so much fun! Lucky you.
Love all your visitors, Elizabeth! The outdoor fireplace seems like a smart place to rest – protected from the back!
One of my neighbors told me that the previous owners had a litter of kittens in the fireplace! Yes, I think this kitten had her back protected. A good place for a nap.
Is that a cougar? It definitely loves that spot at your home. I always love your birds, especially that darling cardinal.
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoy my birds and especially the Cardinal. The red color just pops! It’s a bobcat kitten, separated from it momma too young. It worries me. I hope it makes our backyard home.
Of course, a bobcat. Luckily, you are there to monitor him, and he seems to have made your backyard his home.

That is a beautiful bobcat! We had them in the Catskill Mountains. The first year my parents moved, they would hear them screaming. Scared my mom, greatly.
Yes, I can see why they’d scare your mom! This little one walked by the sliding glass door and I was shocked at how skinny it is. It’s also no bigger than my cat Olive. I’m not sure it’s going to survive without a mom.
Let us know what happens.
I will if I find out. The bobcat is gone now. I usually see them every few months. We have a wash behind our fenced in yard and the wildlife walk up and down that area, but they are hidden from view.
You definitely get some interesting visitors! That kitten is adorable!
The wildlife is awe inspiring. So amazing to look out the window or be on a walk and see these sights!
Definitely! We see deer strolling around our neighborhood. But they’re not always street smart, which can end in tragedy.
We have mule deer, but also little traffic in our neighborhood. I do see some deer and coyotes who didn’t make it on the busy Scottsdale roads.
We all seem to be seeing them!
