I have been anxious about my cat Olive. She got stressed and sick when we went out of town. She was doing better after her visit to the vet, but on Friday she stopped eating and was curled into a ball hiding under the bed. Although we were giving her laxative twice a day, nothing was moving. I wrote about Olive last week HERE.
I drove to a pet food store and bought a variety of treats and wet food for her. Something to entice her to eat. I bought canned salmon, sardines and anchovies at the grocery store.
She turned her nose up at all my treats and Saturday she refused to eat. But finally things were working for her in the litter box. Also, she wasn’t drinking any water and she felt bony, thin and dehydrated.
My daughter called and said not eating for two days was a bad sign. I told her our vet wasn’t open on the weekend. She suggested I find a pet ER. I couldn’t find once close by. But I read an article online about how to get your cat to eat.
It said to place small amounts of food in several places around the house. Also to put some food on your finger and rub it on her gums.
I woke up Sunday morning to see that two of the containers of food were almost gone. Now she’s no longer hiding but sitting on the throw rug watching birds through the window. She looks alert. She looks like she on the mend.
I can’t tell you how relieved I am!
In my opinion, the only thing worse than having sick pets and not knowing what is wrong, is having sick children. What are your thoughts?

Oh I’m so glad that she’s on the mend. ❤️🩹
Me too!
🌹
Sounds like she dodged a bullet.
I think so! I’ll continue to monitor her.
Best wishes!
Thank you!
Glad to hear things are improving. Love these pets in our lives but they sure do worry us some days! 🙏🏼🤣😎😎😎
Olive is eating right now, so I’m feeling relieved. Yes, they do worry us!
It’s hard when any family member is suffering, and pets are definitely family! I’m glad she’s doing better.
Thank you. Yes, it’s hard to see our family members suffer.
What a beautiful bobcat! And so relieved to hear that Olive is doing better and feeling more herself.
Yes. She’s not eating like she used to, but the vet said if she shows interest in food all is good. I keep watching her approach food and taking a few bites.
So hard because they can’t tell us what’s wrong. Glad she seems better.
Exactly. I wish she could talk. I’m hoping this up trend continues.
Olive has a very clear message I think: STAY HOME!
I’m dog sitting this weekend. This girl has lots of anxiety and her parents (my son/DIL) add to that I think. She hates other dogs yet sits and looks at me imploring me to take her out so she can confront them. I ignore her sad face but I know the parents treat her differently and she gets more upset I think. I think pets really fall into a rhythm of “normal” and it throws them way off when that isn’t consistent
Good luck with the dog sitting. I agree that pets like normal. Olive has an entire routine that means she sleeps on my legs at night. Mornings she stares into the back yard at the birds. 2 p.m. she jumps in my lap. 5 p.m. she jumps in my husband’s lap.
They really do get very fixated on things don’t they!
Yes! Olive is into her routine.
Oh my goodness. Poor Olive! I’m glad you are seeing some improvement. I think what Deb said is so true. Almost every dog we’ve ever had suffered when we traveled, and it didn’t matter who was taking good care of them. They missed their humans. 🥰💕🥰
I agree with you and Deb. Olive really suffers when we leave. Our last cat did too. The only pet we had that like us gone was Angus our yellow lap. I took him to a friend’s house on five acres in the high desert. They had two golden retrievers, two horses and a pond. Angus never wanted to come home!
Oh Angus! He’d found his way to the promised land! 🥰😉🥰
Yes. He loved his summer camp while we were at the beach!
🥰🥰🥰
👍🏼
Sick pets crush me. My daughter having a cold I can handle…the pets? Nope
I’m with you. Except my son had severe asthma, RSV, etc as a toddler and I lost a lot of sleep. He was hospitalized a few times.
That’s different
Definitely!
I’m so glad she is improving! I know how worried you must’ve been.
I quit eating, too!
😘❤️
😢
Oh, thank goodness! I’m so glad she worked this through. So worrisome!!
So far so good. If there’s an underlying medical problem, it may get worse. But I’m hopeful right now. I was a wreck over the weekend.
Understandable, Elizabeth! So hard!
We already know she has gall stones. Mostly though she’s a nervous little kitty. Hopefully that’s it.
I feel that pain, too, when we leave our pets behind. But traveling with them is only good for very nearby camping. The stress on them bothers me a lot. I don’t have any answers. I’m glad Olive seems to be recovering from the ordeal.
Yes, it is painful for me and for Olive. I am keeping a close eye on her.
Happy to read that Olive is doing better. Pets can’t tell you what is wrong but you sure can see it and feel helpless.
Thanks! Today she’s must better. I watched her leap up to the top shelf of our closet to look out a window. She took intermediary leaps from shelves and ended up 12 feet up.
You have visiting bobcats? How fabulous!
Glad your kitty is feeling better, I’m beside myself with worry when ours is sick.
When we bought our house, the former owners disclosed that they had a bobcat who lived here. The home inspector found rabbit bones on the roof! A neighbor told us the bobcat had kittens in our back yard before we moved here. I love seeing bobcats from inside the house! My kitty has good days and bad days. It’s driving me nuts.
We have a backyard full of critters here in Maine. Fox, raccoons, skunks, and the deer visit nightly. We have a woodchuck family who lives under our barn and the occasional opossum. I love them all but not sure I’d want bones on my roof.
😉
That wildlife sound fun! We have mule deer and fox. Also, my neighbor’s dog got skunked, so I guess we have skunks too!
