Waiting for Olive

Do you remember the old fashioned veterinarians we used to have? In our town, one vet would treat cats, dogs, horses and cows.

What do you think of modern medicine for pets?

  1. Just like in people, stress can exacerbate underlying health issues that on normal days you likely wouldn’t notice. Poor Olive clearly doesn’t do stress but I would also wonder if it’s something more? Take care EA. I hope for everyone all turns out positive and life settles.

    • This happened to her two years ago and the ultrasound discovered gall stones. So there is something more and they can block the bile ducts. She really doesn’t do stress. In the past stress would result in UTIs. We had Waffles when our daughter studied abroad and he would chase Olive. She was miserable!

    • My days revolve around Olive. But she isn’t happy that we went on vacation. Or about the laxative we have to give her several times a day. Or the trip to the vet. No wonder she’s hiding under the bed.

  2. Oh, poor Olive. I hope she feels better soon. Our dog, Buddy, has been having joint issues this past month. He’s already been to the vet twice. It seems like we just have to be patient, but it’s tough watching them struggle.

  3. Thank you. I’m seeing slight improvement. She’s out from under the bed. Licked at some wet food and is now in our living room watching birds. Yesterday, she was dehydrated and hiding the entire day.

    • Thank you. My daughter has spent a fortune on her pug. He likes to put things in his mouth that make him sick or need surgery! She finally got dog insurance. She watches him, but he’s quick.

      • Our new puppy pug, Rasputin, likes used dryer sheets. When I open the dryer to fold a load, he sits there patiently waiting for the dryer sheet to inevitably fall out, and then he turns into a raptor. Since I use no dyes/perfumes dryer sheets, I let him go at it. It gives me a few minutes to finish folding in peace.

  4. I think it’s interesting that veterinarian care is very similar to that of humans, but a fraction of the cost (though not cheap by any means). I hope she feels better soon!

  5. Poor Olive, but she is a cat and they do seem to carry on regardless.

Same here. It was more like a James Herriot book than how modern medicine cares for animals. A lot less expensive, too.
